Patricia Gamboa, a CNM achievement coach in the School of Math, Science & Engineering, was recently selected to participate in the E. (Kika) de la Garza Fellowship sponsored by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Gamboa was one of three fellows selected from New Mexico educational institutions.
The fellows will work with USDA scientists and managers in Washington, D.C., to learn more about research and management issues in the areas of agriculture, agri-business, science, research and biotechnology. The fellows, who were selected from institutions that serve a high percentage of Hispanic students, will then pass along their knowledge to students about career opportunities in these fields of study.
The fellowship was established in 1998 as part of a collaboration between the USDA and the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities. The program is designed to enhance fellows’ professional growth while fostering workforce diversity and strengthening the nation’s capacity to provide high-quality education and increased opportunities for Hispanic-Americans.
