CNM Celebrates American Indian Heritage Month
“We wanted to recognize American Indian Month in a special way,” said Yolanda Pacheco, associate director of Academic Advisement and Job Connection Services who belongs to a Native American tribe in California. “We have 1,900 Native Americans who are students on campus."
Some of the events planned this month are:
- Nov. 13 – Representatives from several community resource organizations that can provide services to Native Americans will be on hand at the Main Campus Student Services Center food court from 10 a.m.to 1 p.m. CNM departments, Native American student services programs from other four-year universities, tribal education departments, scholarship agencies and health organizations will be represented.
- Nov. 15 – CNM will participate in the “Rock Your Mocs” campaign, a national event that encourages American Indians to wear their tribe’s traditional moccasins to school, to work or wherever their day takes them. The event is designed to inspire cultural pride for Native Americans
