An Announcement from President Winograd About the CNM STEMulus Center in Downtown

Dear CNM Community, I am excited to inform you that CNM is preparing to launch a new site in Downtown Albuquerque that will build upon CNM’s longtime dedication to our community.

We are planning to lease a significant amount of space in the First Plaza Galeria in the heart of Downtown, where we plan to open the new CNM STEMulus Center in the fall.

Since CNM opened in 1965, we have been responding to the economic needs of our community with exceptional effectiveness. And this will be a continuation of that legacy.

We are confident that we will be able to change more lives for the better and build a stronger, more economically promising community through this effort because of this – we have the best community college faculty and staff in the country. The tremendous work you do on a daily basis to serve our students and community, and the confidence our community has in you to deliver top-notch instruction, programs and services, has enabled us to confidently move forward with this supplemental approach in Downtown. This new effort is largely aimed at reaching new populations of citizens who can benefit from the education, expertise and state-of-the-art equipment CNM has to offer.

The CNM STEMulus Center will be designed to support our community’s workforce and economic needs by providing accelerated learning opportunities that address key gaps in our workforce sooner rather than later, which is critical to our region’s economic prospects. We will provide wrap-around services for aspiring entrepreneurs, helping to get their business ideas on a fast track to market. As part of an effort to reach new groups of community members, we plan to expose them to CNM programs and our state-of-the-art lab equipment in new ways and in new environments.

All of these efforts at the CNM STEMulus Center are also designed to help us generate new revenue that will strengthen our ability to remain fiscally sound. To ensure CNM’s sustainability in the years and decades ahead, we need to become less reliant on state funding and more reliant on our own revenue streams. And with your help, I’m hopeful that the CNM STEMulus Center will be a successful step in that direction.

The planning for the programs that will be represented at the STEMulus Center will begin soon. I hope you’re excited about this important endeavor and that you’ll participate in the programming discussions. This is a great new opportunity for us to be innovative, which is a major part of our Strategic Direction. And we would not be moving forward with this effort without complete confidence in the innovative spirit that resides among our faculty and staff.

We have established a new web page – www.cnm.edu/stemulus – where you can keep up with this new effort as it evolves. We will keep you updated on the progress of the facility Downtown and other developments as we move toward the launch of the CNM STEMulus Center!

Thanks,

Kathie
