Students Organize Toy and Winter Coat Drive

CNM's Executive Council of Students is conducting a toy and winter coat donation drive that will benefit children in the area. CNM's Executive Council of Students is conducting a toy and winter coat donation drive that will benefit children in the area. "We really care about our community and we wanted to help out any way we can," said student Stephen Martos, president of the Executive Council of Students. "We thought a toy and coat drive would be the perfect way to help our community this holiday season."

If you have new, unopened toys or gently used winter coats for kids, you can donate them at the CNM Connect location at any campus. The Executive Council of Students will distribute donated toys and winter coats to local charities for area kids in need.

"When we were coming up with ideas to help the community, one of our (ECOS) members brought up the idea of a toy drive because it was personal to her," Martos said. "Another (ECOS member) said it would be awesome to do a coat drive because she had been affected by that issue. We thought it would be great to do both.

"Anything people donate is going to brighten somebody's day."

Martos said that ECOS will continue to organize efforts to benefit the community and CNM.

"ECOS is trying to become a strong leadership source on campus and we want to show our willingness to work with everyone to help make CNM a better place for all involved," he said. "We are always looking for feedback, participation and potential new members with a knack for leadership or a strong potential for growth."

The toy and winter coat drive will run through Dec. 13. ECOS has partnered with KOAT's Koats for Kids program – once ECOS collects all the donated coats at CNM, it will provide them to KOAT, which will clean the coats and distribute them to kids in need. Donated toys for boys and girls through this drive will be provided to various local charities in the community. Toys donated at the Rio Rancho Campus will go to the Rio Rancho Police Explorers Post, which hosts an annual holiday event for underprivileged children.
