Students Build Pre-Fabricated Cottage That’s Now Up for Bid

Jan. 24, 2013 -- Students in CNM’s Applied Technologies Manufactured Housing Program have put their impressive skills to work by building a two-bedroom cottage with an emphasis on green construction. It’s now up for bid to the public.

The cottage is equipped for energy efficient appliances, with carpet in the living room and bedrooms, ceramic tile in the kitchen, bathroom and laundry rooms, and all rough-in inspections have been completed. Each year, these student-built cottages go on sale through a bidding process with all proceeds going to pay for construction materials.

caption:Construction materials for the cottages run about $30,000 without labor costs. Bidding for the homes begins at $20,000. Bidding is open to anyone and more information can be obtained at cnm.edu/purchasing under the request for bids section, bid number T-2872.
