Central New Mexico Community College is moving into the neighborhood. Take a look at what CNM’s newest campus will look like when it’s completed in two years.
The Campus
The CNM campus will be built on a 40-acre tract near City Center and is expected to be completed and open for classes in 2010. The design of the building will be similar to the Westside Campus, located in northwest Albuquerque.
The building will be one of only a few LEED-certified buildings in Rio Rancho which means the construction and completion of the building will not only be environmentally friendly but will meet high levels of energy efficiency when it opens. It will include an interior courtyard where students can study outside and still be protected from the elements.
The campus will open its doors offering classes in:
nursing
computer and information technology
business administration
liberal arts
The campus will include a nursing simulation lab, biology and computer labs. Students will be able to earn associate’s degrees and certificates and complete their first two years of college credits without leaving Rio Rancho.
The Future for the Rio Rancho City Center
Plans for City Center include a University of New Mexico campus. The partnership between CNM and UNM has lead to 2+2 agreements in many areas, which allow students to complete their first two years at CNM and seamlessly transfer to UNM.
How CNM came to be in Rio Rancho
Voters gave CNM the go ahead last year to expand its district and as a result the campus will be the first higher education institution within the boundaries of Rio Rancho.
The addition of a CNM Rio Rancho Campus will serve the more than 2,000 students in Sandoval County who are CNM students. When voters passed the district expansion it also allowed Rio Rancho students to start paying in-district tuition, which is $41 a credit hour.
