This timeline is updated regularly to show the latest information.

Fall 2019

  • ITS Staff implement the CNM Brightspace platform and integrate it with CNM’s existing infrastructure.
  • User Acceptance Testing (UAT) of the new platform begins.
  • Distance Learning (DL) Staff test the tool that migrates courses from Blackboard to Brightspace.
  • Faculty and staff training modules are developed.

Spring 2020

  • The CNM Brightspace platform is integrated with the Banner system to prepare for large-scale faculty and staff access.
  • Training begins for Early Adopters in February 2020.
  • UAT of the CNM Brightspace platform continues.
  • DL Staff begins course conversions of consensus and template courses from Blackboard to Brightspace.
  • Brightspace Roadshow: interactive demonstrations of the Brightspace platform are presented on every CNM campus.
  • The COVID-19 pandemic has slowed down the Brightspace training, but training efforts continue online.
  • Face-to-face training sessions  are cancelled. 
  • Distance Learning Faculty begin training in Brightspace in early April.
  • The LMS Team continues the communication and promotion efforts related to the Brightspace transition.

Summer 2020

  • All Faculty gain access to training through the Faculty Jumpstart in Brightspace.
  • Faculty will have access to empty course shells for training.
  • Development of staff training begins in collaboration with key groups.
  • Virtual workshops on essential Brightspace tools are available.
  • Brightspace Roadshow: Virtual demonstrations and interactive sessions of the Brightspace platform are presented in June.
  • Virtual training sessions supplement the self-paced faculty training.  
  • DL Staff begins course conversions of individual courses from Blackboard to Brightspace.
  • Faculty can request courses to be copied from Blackboard to Brightspace through the  Brightspace Transition Form. 
  • DL-Certified Faculty should complete required training by August 9, 2020. This deadline can be extended to faculty who are trained to be DL certified during the summer 2020 term. 
  • Staff training begins in summer and continues in the fall. 

Fall 2020

  • Virtual workshops on Brightspace tools and general support drop-in labs continue. 
  • Student outreach and marketing related to the transition to Brightspace begins in October 2020.
  • Faculty can request courses to be copied from Blackboard to Brightspace through the  Brightspace Transition Form. 
  • Faculty review migrated courses and make necessary adjustments.
  • The Blackboard platform closes at the end of December.  Important course content and data must be archived or exported prior to December.
  • Select Online College courses pilot the use of Brightspace.  
  • December 2020-January 2021 intersession courses are  taught in Brightspace.

Spring 2021

  • Full launch of Brightspace: All CNM courses use Brightspace as the learning management system.
  • Distance Learning continues to support teaching and learning in Brightspace.
