Privacy Statement

CNM recognizes that the growth of online services, including Internet services, has created additional privacy concerns, particularly for its constituents. This notice describes CNM's privacy policy for the CNM Online Enrollment System.

Central New Mexico Community College uses the information from your visit for internal tracking and reporting purposes, and to respond to your requests for information or other services. CNM's policy for maintaining the confidentiality of personal student information and student academic records is in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA, P.L. 93-380, 512). Information Collection

CNM is the sole owner of the information collected on CNM's Online Enrollment System. CNM collects information from the users at several different points on the system.

Access to secure areas require Student ID and PIN number
Access to certain areas of the Online Enrollment System will require entry of a student ID and PIN number in order for the system to positively identify you. This ensures that only you will be able to access your CNM records.

Online payment of tuition and fees using a Credit Card requires submitting credit card information
Credit card information (account name, number and expiration date) is required of students paying for classes online with a credit card. The information is used for billing purposes only. The last four digits of the credit card number are retained and used for verification purposes.

Links

CNM's Online Enrollment System may contain links to other sites. Please be aware that CNM is not responsible for the privacy practices of such other sites. CNM encourages you to be aware when you leave our site, to read the privacy statements of each and every Web site that collects personally identifiable information.

Information Use

Cookies
Like many other Web sites, CNM uses a standard technology called a "cookie." A cookie is a piece of data stored on the user's computer tied to information about the user. A cookie cannot retrieve any other data from your hard drive, pass on computer viruses, or capture any personal information. On this website, you must accept cookies as they are essential for site security, which is their only purpose. These cookies are discarded as soon as you sign off and close your browser. CNM does not collect any persistent cookies.

Log Files
Like most standard Web site servers, CNM uses log files that automatically receive and record information from your browser. This includes generic, non-personal data about your visit to the Online Enrollment System site. CNM uses log files for statistical purposes only to help make the site more useful for the CNM community.

Choice/Opt-out

If you are uncomfortable transmitting or accessing your information via the Online Enrollment System, you can choose not to use the services available online or provide CNM any information which may be required to do so.

Security

When our registration/order form asks users to enter sensitive information (such as credit card number and/or social security number), that information is encrypted and is protected with the best encryption software in the industry - SSL. While on a secure page, the lock icon on the bottom of Web browsers such as Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Internet Explorer becomes locked, as opposed to un-locked, or open, when users are just 'surfing'.

It is also important to verify that only authorized person's log into the secure area. You are allowed to enter your ID and PIN numbers incorrectly three (3) times. If you enter your information incorrectly more than three times, your account will be locked for security purposes until you contact the registration office to reactivate it.

CNM provides additional security features to protect you while accessing your account. Your session will automatically "timeout" after a fifteen-minute period of inactivity. This prevents unauthorized persons from viewing your information in case you have left your PC unattended without logging out. However, it is recommended that you always sign-off by clicking "exit" when you are done.

What you can do
CNM urges you to take every precaution to protect your personal data. It is important for you to protect against unauthorized access to your PIN and to your computer. You can help safeguard your information by following these simple guidelines:

  • Make sure you use a browser that supports 128-bit encryption.
  • Never use PIN numbers that are easy to guess such as birth dates or phone numbers.
  • Do not share your PIN with others.
  • Periodically change your PIN number in the personal information screen online.
  • Whenever possible, use the links provided on the pages rather than the browser window's back button.
  • After accessing the system, be sure to log out by clicking "exit".
  • Close out the browser window completely, especially if using a shared computer.

Notification of Changes

CNM has made every reasonable effort to ensure that the material in this document is accurate. Material contained herein is subject to change without notice by the administration. If CNM decides to change the privacy policy, CNM will post those changes to this privacy statement, the homepage, and other places CNM deems appropriate.
