CNM Team Places in NASA-Sponsored ‘Swarmathon’ Robot Competition

April 27, 2017 -- A team of CNM computer science and engineering students came in fifth place overall and second place in technical papers in a NASA-sponsored “Swarmathon” robot competition last week. The competition, organized by the University of New Mexico, was held at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex in Florida.

First Stages of Drone Certification Program Underway

February 23, 2017 -- CNM’s School of Applied Technologies recently hosted a Developing a Curriculum (DACUM) event at the CNM Advanced Technology Center, adding momentum to the development of an Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Technician certification – better known as a drone technician certification.

Early-stage Businesses Invited to Apply for IGNITE Community Accelerator

February 8, 2017 -- Early-stage and startup businesses are invited to apply for CNM’s IGNITE Community Accelerator through March 3. The Accelerator, which will begin March 17, helps entrepreneurs gain the business skills they need to accelerate the growth of their fledgling businesses through an intensive, 10-week program.

IGNITE Business Accelerator Now Accepting Applications

Jan. 27, 2017 -- The next IGNITE Community Accelerator will start March 17 at the CNM STEMulus Center in Downtown Albuquerque. The Accelerator provides early-stage/startup businesses an intensive 12-week program designed to lift their businesses to greater heights while generating momentum for the region’s entrepreneurial and economic development efforts.

Smith Brasher Hall Ground-source HVAC System to Save Energy, Money

December 13, 2016 -- The new ground-source heating and cooling system and other improvements that are part of the major renovation of Smith Brasher Hall on Main Campus are expected to save CNM about $96,480 annually. That includes a roughly 33 percent reduction in electricity costs and a total elimination of gas charges.

Student Artwork Showcased in Louis E. Saavedra Administration Building

December 7, 2016 -- An exhibition of student drawings called “Wondergarden” is on display now through the end of the 2017 Spring Term in the Louis E. Saavedra Administration (LSA) Building on Main Campus. The students were all in a 2016 Westside Campus Drawing I class. Each 18"x24" drawing is made using white chalk on black paper.

Student Success Celebrated at Graduation Ceremony

December 6. 2016 -- A total of 633 Central New Mexico Community College graduates and 49 GED graduates will participate in the CNM Fall Graduation Ceremony on Saturday, Dec. 10, at noon at Tingley Coliseum on the grounds of EXPO New Mexico. About 7,000 family members and friends of the graduates are expected to be in attendance to celebrate the life-changing moment.

CNM #1 in Nation to Award Associate Degrees to Native Americans

Sept. 21, 2016 -- Every year, Community College Week reviews U.S. Department of Education data to compile its national list of Top 100 Associate Degree producers. In its just released 2016 Top 100 (which reviews the most current figures available from the 2014-15 academic year), CNM ranks No. 1 among all community colleges and associate degree-granting universities in the country for the number of associate degrees earned by Native Americans, and No. 2 among all community colleges (No. 5 when associate degree-granting universities are included) for associate degrees earned by Hispanics.

CNM Students to Attend Four-Day NASA Workshops

August 30, 2016 -- Four CNM students are among the 328 scholars from around the country who will be attending a four-day NASA-sponsored workshop in September and October. The training is a program of NASA Community College Aerospace Scholars (NCAS).
