CNM Ingenuity and the New Mexico Blockchain Alliance are hosting a one-day “BlockFiesta! Conference” to discuss the opportunities and impacts of the fast-emerging blockchain technology that’s expected to revolutionize the future of financial transactions and technology infrastructure for organizations large and small. Blockchain is the technology that spawned cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin.

BlockFiesta!, which will focus on the future of blockchain in New Mexico and the Southwest, will take place on Saturday, Oct. 13, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Central New Mexico Community College’s Main Campus in Smith Brasher Hall (717 University Blvd. SE).

Speakers will include representatives from IBM, Sandia National Laboratories, Lipscomb University, CNM Ingenuity, Learning Machine, and businesses using blockchain such as FreeRange, DistrictOx and Pixegon. Several cryptocurrency investors and blockchain ventures in New Mexico will participate as well.

The speakers will provide insights into how blockchain technology will affect everybody in the coming years and how it will positively affect day-to-day life on a scale that hasn’t happened since the advent of the internet. Sessions will include blockchain use in the energy sector, government, startups and investment, education, healthcare, technology development, and day-to-day business operations.

CNM became the first community college in the country to issue digital diplomas through blockchain technology in December to a small group of graduates during a pilot phase. Beginning this month, all CNM graduates will now have the opportunity to manage and share their diplomas with employers or others securely from their mobile device, forever and for free.

CNM Ingenuity is also working with the City of Albuquerque on a long-term blockchain effort. Ingenuity is developing a blockchain bootcamp to start training City employees so Albuquerque can start using blockchain technology to track and verify everything from business transactions to utility performance. The bootcamp will be open to anybody interested in blockchain applications.

After the BlockFiesta! conference on Oct. 13, there will be an after-party at Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta’s Night Magic Glow.
