On Oct. 13 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., CNM’s Hispanic Heritage Day Celebration will be held at Main Campus on the Student Services Center patio. The event has taken place every year for the past four years, in honor of National Hispanic Heritage Month, which this year runs from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15.

“This is a wonderful opportunity to promote diversity,” said Nancy Valenzuela of the Center for Community Programs and Partnerships, who heads up the Hispanic Heritage Day Committee for CNM.

The city-wide Hispanic Heritage Month committee is sponsored by over 60 companies from around the area with the focus of celebrating the diversity and rich culture of Albuquerque.

The event will feature a variety of traditional Hispanic music and entertainment, including: flamenco performers from the National Institute of Flamenco at 10:30 a.m.; traditional Mexican and New Mexican guitar and singing by CNM student Ramón Saiz and his wife, Lydia, at noon; and Mariachi music at 2p.m.

This day is also a great opportunity for potential students to find information about CNM and community resources. Spanish translators will be on hand to help Spanish-speaking students explore programs and help them register.

In conjunction with Hispanic Heritage Month, the Assistant Attorney General for Consumer Immigrant Services will be hosting a workshop entitled “College Consumer Guide- A Guide to Spend Wisely” on Tuesday, Oct. 19, from 3-4 p.m. in the Student Resource Center. The workshop is open to all students.
