CNM’s team presented a play called “Brunch” about small town women and a scandal. Team members included current students Kelly Fernandez, Marina Nasteway, Tommy Joy, Sheldon Blackhorse, Lexie Torres, Zephaniah Pilchner, Aubrey Mayer and Alma Rivera. City College, a theatre group which is made up of primarily CNM alumni and students, presented “Buried Treasure” about a quirky man with a lifelong pirate fetish. The CNM students and alumni included Steven Blacksmith Angelina Ortiz, Shelley Carney, Straya Avila, Co Akala and Ray Rey Griego. CNM theatre faculty member Dani Belvin was stage manager for the entire show.

“As well as presenting solid theatrical works, our students behaved in a professional and skillful manner that made me proud,” said CNM theatre faculty member Leonard Madrid, who also performed in a play at the festival.

CNM’s two teams were among seven that presented plays. They gathered on Friday, April 15, and developed their ideas for plays. It then became a team member’s responsibility to write the play. The team came back together the next morning to rehearse the play, which they presented that evening at two performances, all open to the public.
