Female Students Pursuing Degrees in Nontraditional Fields Honored

April 11, 2017 -- Many female students at CNM choose fields of study considered non-traditional -- careers that have been traditionally dominated by men. Six such women were honored at the Women in Non-Traditional Careers (WIN) Awards Celebration April 6.

Celina Bussey, cabinet secretary for the New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions, shared a positive message about how women in non-traditional fields are making an impact in helping the community.

The winners included: Denise Ojeda, CNM Employee Advocate; Lei Stafford, Outstanding Student; Madison Stack, CNM Community Leader/Advocate; Makeila Maguire, Student of Promise; Ashlee Leyba,  Future Leader; and Chelsea Hartshorn, Nontraditional Student of the Year.

The students' majors are Maguire, Biotechnology; Ojeda, Electrical Trades; Hartshorn, Electrical Trades; Stack, Engineering; Stafford, Automotive; and Leybe, Machine Tool Technology.
