The specially-designated parking spaces supplement the newly renovated buildings on CNM’s campuses and contribute to Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver certifications.

Nicholas Aragon, CNM Parking Services manager, prepared the policy mandating the specially-designated parking spots be occupied by fuel efficient vehicles only – vehicles such as hybrid and electric cars. The Executive Oversight Committee approved the policy.

“We want to make CNM as environmentally friendly as possible,” Aragon said. “These parking spots, together with our LEED-designated buildings, are a way to reach that goal.”

To determine if a vehicle qualifies to park in a “Go Green” spot, visit the Go Green Car website (LEED2017 spreadsheet, bottom of page) for a list of approved low-emission and fuel-efficient vehicles.

Once it is determined that the vehicle qualifies, a bumper sticker-sized permit can be obtained at Parking Services in the Public Safety Building on Main Campus. When the sticker is placed on the vehicle’s rear bumper, the vehicle is ready to be parked in the Go Green parking spots.  Please note, in order for employees and students to park in these spots they must have a permit for the paid lot where they wish to park their vehicle.

Two signs will be on the Go Green parking spaces. One will say “Preferred Parking for Low-Emitting and Fuel Efficient Vehicles.” Directly under that will be a second sign that says “Go Green Permit Required, Enforcement Hours: M-F, 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.”

Go Green parking spaces are located in the North Lot, Science Laboratory Building Lot, Smith Brasher Hall Lot and the Robert P. Matteucci Hall Lot near the bookstore on Main Campus. They can also be found at the Tom Wiley Hall Lot on Montoya Campus and the Westside II Lot on the Westside Campus.
