Kick-off Meeting to Discuss Strategic Direction Set for Sept. 8

August 30, 2017 -- The kick-off meeting to discuss five of CNM’s Strategic Direction initiatives will be Friday, Sept. 8, at 9 a.m. in Max Salazar Hall, Room 201. Faculty and staff interested in helping plan the college’s future are welcome to attend.

CNM has a total of 24 Strategic Directions, which were identified last year. Fourteen are already underway, and five will be addressed in spring 2018.

The following is a list of initiatives and their charges that will be part of this fall’s Strategic Direction.

  • Develop a student work experience program.
    • 2020 Goal -- 100 percent of graduates have a work experience prior to graduation with a certificate or degree.
    • Current Data: 85 percent of CNM graduates who are not continuing their education are employed in their field. In the 2015-2016 academic year, roughly 10 percent of CNM students received work experience through a class at CNM -- the majority through co-operative education classes.
  • Transition from college-owned to student-owned technology.
    • 2020 Goal -- At least 25 percent of the degree and certificate offerings use student-owned technology.
    • Current Data: 49 computer lab class rooms with roughly 1,200 computers; six open computer labs with roughly 214 computers; Smith Brasher Hall will have areas that support students bringing their own technology, as well as CNM provided technology.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive makerspace.
    • 2020 Goal -- Develop a comprehensive makerspace with 100 memberships monthly.
    • Current Data: FUSE Makerspace moved in August from its location on Main Campus to a new space in the Innovate ABQ campus. It offers weekly or monthly memberships and equipment rentals.
  • Transform Customer Service Experience.
    • 2020 Goals – 95 percent of all calls to the college are answered before going to voicemail; 100 percent of students seeking advisement are served within 24 hours; 100 percent of FAFSAs are reviewed within 24 hours; 100 percent of service tickets receive a response within 24 hours.

  • Expand non-credit offerings through boot camps and academies
    • 2020 Goal -- 1,000 students served annually through non-credit boot camps and academies.
    • Current Data: Through CNM Ingenuity programs and grants, 139 students participated in boot camps or academies in Academic Year 2016-17. Programs included Deep Dive Fullstack, Deep Dive .NET, Deep Dive Java+Android+Salesforce, Supervisor Academy, Electronic Soldering Academy, Cyber Academy: IT Professional, Cyber Academy: Network Associate, Photovoltaic Academy and Advanced Photovoltaic Academy.
