Values Champion Shout-Out: 2021 Graduation Volunteers

May 06, 2021

I would like to recognize the team of volunteers who showed up to help make the drive-thru graduation celebration a great success on Saturday, May 1, 2021. As we all know, the pandemic prevented CNM from hosting an in-person graduation ceremony for the second year in a row. In an effort to make graduation more memorable this year, the Dean of Students Office graduation planning committee organized an in-person drive thru celebration in addition to the online virtual graduation ceremony.

As a small committee of five, there was no way we could have pulled off the drive-thru event on our own. We reached out to the various departments at the college and were able to get 18 great volunteers from all four divisions and CNM Ingenuity who dedicated at least four hours from their Saturday to help support and make this event so great.

Duties for the event included traffic control and parking, checking in the graduates who drove thru, staffing a CNM swag stop, taking photos of the graduates, name reading, escorting students in front of the stage, and various other duties as assigned or needed throughout the day.

The event provided our graduates an opportunity to be recognized by CNM Governing Board members, the Executive Team, President Hartzler, and the faculty and staff who came to show their support. We had 263 graduates participate in the event, including a father/daughter duo, mother and two daughters, sisters, and several other memorable graduation stories we were proud to share.

In addition to the volunteers, I would like to thank Shipping and Receiving, CNM Security and Parking services, Audio and Visual Services, Media Production Services, the CNM Foundation, and Sol the Suncat. And a very special recognition and thank you to the core planning committee–Nicole Romero, Diana Myklebust, Rita Leyba and Clyde Ortiz who dedicated many hours planning, organizing, and communicating the event to the CNM community and our graduates. Thank you to everyone mentioned and anyone who I might have left off. Thank you for helping us celebrate the accomplishments of our graduates for and for helping them create memories that will last a lifetime.
