If you have never taken ESL classes at CNM before, you must first take a placement test. This test is on a computer and is used to determine your level for classes.

We offer leveled classes (Beginning, Low/High Intermediate, and Advanced) as well as multi-level classes.

  • You can choose one leveled class (350, 450/550, 650) that matches your test score.
  • You can choose one leveled class (350, 450/550, 650) and one multi-level class.
  • You can select one (leveled or multi-leveled) class and an elective (Citizenship or GED in Spanish) depending on your test score.

For detailed course descriptions, please the ESL section of the course catalog. If you test out of ESL (test Score 236 or above), you can take the TABE test and register for HSE preparation classes, or take the Accuplacer test in the Assessment Center and register for college-level classes for ESOL (English Speakers of Other Languages).
