Information for English as a Second Language (ESL) Program Registration and Classes

Spring 2021 classes will be completely online and start on January 25, 2021. We will be offering GED classes in Spanish. Students must first attend a virtual orientation via Zoom. Please see the link below to register for an orientation.

Next Steps

 After you attend to Zoom orientation, follow these steps to complete your registration:

  1. Fill out the free online application to be a CNM student.
  2. Take the online CASAS placement exam. In order to take the exam, students must have the following:
    • A computer or laptop with Windows 10 (iPad and Chromebook do not work for remote testing)
    • Webcam and microphone
    • High-Speed internet
    • 2 continuous hours for the test (schedule with the Adult Basic Education office)

  3. Pay the $10 for the class. Register for your leveled class with the Adult Basic Education office.

ESL Class Information

We offer leveled classes (Beginning, Low/High Intermediate, and Advanced) as well as multi-level classes.

  • You can choose one leveled class (350, 450/550, 650) that matches your test score
    OR
  • You can select one (leveled or multi-leveled) class

For detailed course descriptions, please see the ESL section of the course catalog. If your CASAS ESL placement test score is 236 or above, then you can take the CASAS Reading and Math GOALS tests and register for HSE preparation classes, or take the Accuplacer test in the Assessment Center and register for college-level classes for ESOL (English Speakers of Other Languages). Additional Options for ESL students

If you are interested in CNM's Spanish bilingual program in Early Childhood Multicultural Education, contact Sandra Arpero at sarpero@cnm.edu or call (505) 224-4000 ext. 53917. The program is open to ESL students with test scores of 181-235.

If you are interested in CNM's Nursing Assistant program for ESL students in the Fall term, contact the Adult Basic Education department at (505) 224-4287. The program is open to qualified Advanced ESL students with test scores 221 (Advanced) or above.
