Physical Therapist Assistant Program

Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) is a six-term program during which you will attain the knowledge, skills and professional behaviors necessary for employment as a Physical Therapist Assistant. Physical Therapist Assistants work as part of a team to provide physical therapy services under the direction and supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist. PTAs help people of all ages who have medical problems or other health-related conditions that limit their ability to move and perform functional activities in their daily lives. The program will provide training in evidence-based physical therapy practice with sensitivity to differences in age, gender and cultural background.

The PTA program includes classroom coursework, clinical lab work, and patient simulations to prepare you for three full-time clinical education experiences under the supervision of a clinical instructor. You are expected to be available daily on a full-time basis to accommodate the changing schedules inherent to a program of this nature.

The Physical Therapist Assistant program at CNM is a Developing Program, as defined by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE). Please read the Accreditation statement below.

Program Admission

The PTA program utilizes a selective admission process which is conducted through the Coordinated Program Entry (CPE) Office. Sixteen students will be accepted each year. Applicants must fill out a Pre-Registration Screening Form to be considered for admission to the program; classes begin in the Fall.

To learn more about the specific requirements for entry into the PTA program including exact dates to submit the Pre-Registration Screening Form, visit the Coordinated Program Entry webpage.  CNM’s Coordinated Program Entry office will implement a lottery selection process when the number of approved pre-registration screened applicants exceeds the available seating capacity.
