1. General Information

Central New Mexico Community College (CNM) extends unemployment coverage to non-student employees in accordance with the New Mexico Unemployment Compensation Act.  This coverage is designed to provide benefit payments for a short period to workers who, through no fault of their own, are unable to obtain gainful employment.

2. Eligibility

The New Mexico State Department of Workforce Solutions determines which individuals are eligible for unemployment compensation insurance benefits based on the circumstances of the separation and the provisions of the Unemployment Compensation Act.  Employees interested in this coverage may contact their local Department of Labor.

Procedure

Department

1.1 Submit documentation (Unemployment Insurance Separation Notice) to the Human Resources Department.

1.2 Forward any documentation received from the New Mexico Department of Labor immediately to the Human Resources Department.

1.2.1 The New Mexico Department of Labor allows an employer only five (5) days to respond to an unemployment compensation claim filed by the separated employee.

1.3 Notify the CNM third party administrator that an unemployment claim has been filed.

1.4 Forward an Unemployment Insurance Separation Notice and other support documentation as needed to the third party administrator.
