CNM First in State to Offer Cloud Computing Course Series

September, 2013 -- CNM has become the first public college or university in New Mexico to have a VMware IT Academy offering classes in “cloud computing,” a fast-growing field that gives companies all the technology they need without the hefty infrastructure costs.

CNM Nutrition Student Receives $50,000 Scholarship from USDA

Aug. 8, 2013 -- Suzanne Porter-Bolton, a Central New Mexico Community College nutrition major, has been awarded a $50,000 United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) scholarship funded by a Healthy Meals Fit for Life grant. It is one of the largest scholarships a CNM student has ever received.

CNM Instructor Named EMS Educator of the Year

Aug. 1, 2013 -- Kathy Kaestner, full-time Emergency Medical Services faculty and clinical coordinator at CNM, was named Emergency Medical Services Educator of the Year at the EMS State Conference on July 26 at the Hotel Cascada in Albuquerque.

Jeannette Stromberg Hall Renovation Earns LEED Gold Certification

June 13, 2013 -- The newly renovated Jeannette Stromberg Hall on CNM’s Main Campus has been awarded Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold Certification by the U.S. Green Building Council. It is the second building on a CNM campus and the first renovation project to receive the coveted LEED Gold honor.

CNM's Annual GED Graduation Ceremony Set for June 15

June 13, 2013 -- More than 220 students from throughout the area who have passed the General Educational Development (GED) exam over the past year will don caps and gowns on Saturday, June 15, and participate in the 26th annual CNM-sponsored GED graduation ceremony. The event -- one of the largest GED graduations in the country -- will be held at 10 a.m. at the Kiva Auditorium in the Albuquerque Convention Center.

CNM Enactus Team Named Regional Champion

May 3, 2013 -- The CNM Enactus team was recently named Regional Champion and Rookie of the Year at the Enactus United States Regional Competition held in Seattle, Wash., in late April. Enactus is an international nonprofit organization that encourages students to apply business concepts to community outreach projects.

Jan. 28, 2013 -- The latest advancement in CNM’s built environment will debut at the Westside Campus on Jan. 31, when the grand opening ceremony for Westside I will take place from 3 to 4:30 p.m. The ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at 3 p.m., followed by an open house and self-guided tours.

STEM-UP Center Helps Students Pursue STEM Degrees

A new STEM-UP Transfer Center was inaugurated with a Grand Opening on Nov. 14. The Center is located on Main Campus in L Building, Room100, and offers one-stop shopping for students pursuing degrees in four core fields identified as vital by the U.S. Department of Education, other agencies and prospective employers.

Record Number of Students Walking in Graduation Ceremony

The thrill of becoming a college graduate as thousands of supporters cheer from the seats of Tingley Coliseum is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that continues to gain popularity. At noon on Saturday (Dec. 8) in Tingley, more than 620 graduates will walk in the Fall 2012 CNM Graduation Ceremony, which will set the college record for participation in a graduation ceremony.

Employees Honored for Outstanding Work

CNM employees Anthony Rael, Pam Etre-Perez, Tom Pierce and Christine Duncan were recently honored by the college for outstanding efforts, which included establishing an English as a Second Language class for CNM Operations employees and for organizing the disbursement of $23 million in financial aid to students.
