The South Valley Campus is located in the South Valley’s Pajarito Village on Isleta Boulevard adjacent to the Rio Grande Bosque.

This is a historically and culturally significant area and is one of the oldest communities in the state, with many of its founding families (including but not limited to Padillas, Armijos, Gutierrez-Hubble) still residing in the community.

The campus is located along El Camino Real, the oldest continuously used European roadway in North America. It is easily accessible off I-25, within 35 minutes from any location in Bernalillo County. The campus is situated on eight acres and is comprised of 44,373 sq. ft. of building space.

Campus and the Community

The South Valley Campus is an integral part of the South Valley community. Residents were partially responsible for the creation of the campus, with several local leaders supporting requests for funding from the New Mexico legislature in 1995 for a campus to meet the demand of students in the area. After funds were awarded, the campus opened in fall 1995 in the former Pajarito Elementary School.

The campus connects with the community in a number of ways. For example, the campus hosts a YDI Head Start Child Development Center. Head Start serves financially eligible children ages 3 to 5 who reside in the Albuquerque/Bernalillo County area. The center located on the South Valley Campus enrolls 20 children in one full-day class and twenty children each in two half-day Pre-K classes. A children’s storytime program also exists between the center and the campus library.

Eligible CNM students receive enrollment consideration at the South Valley Campus Head Start location. An application appointment is necessary to begin the process. Call (505) 212-7284.

Another example of campus-community cooperation is the campus’ Learning Commons, which provides computer access to software applications, the Internet, equipment to the community for a minimal fee per term, and library services.
