Scheduling and Taking the CASAS Test

As a High School Equivalency (HSE) student, you must register for classes based on your current scores on the CASAS Reading and Math GOALS placement tests.

New Adult Basic Education (ABE) students must complete the ABE HSE Virtual Orientation before scheduling their CASAS tests.

Scheduling the Test

Currently, the CASAS test is offered in-person at the CNM Main, Westside, and Montoya Campuses or can be taken remotely online from your home computer. Click on the link below and select the Schedule In-Person CASAS Exam button to schedule at a CNM campus (you will select the campus after selecting In-Person CASAS). For the test Group, select CASAS HSE as the exam, if you are wanting to take HSE prep classes then select both Reading and Math.

Schedule your CASAS exam

If you want to test remotely from your home, use the link above and scroll down on the page, then click the Schedule my Remote CASAS Test button. You will then select CASAS (online) as your exam group and select either CASAS HSE Reading or CASAS HSE Math.

If you will be taking the CASAS for ESL classes, make sure to first complete the ABE Virtual Orientation for ESL before scheduling your CASAS ESL test.

Taking the Test

Bring only your photo ID inside the building. Before arriving, please check on parking information for the campus you are testing at, and Assessment office locations (scroll down on that page).

The CASAS HSE test has two parts: reading and math. Each test is 1.5 hours in length, and Reading needs to be taken before Math.

The CASAS ESL exam must be scheduled by the CNM Adult Basic Education office. Please email CNM_ABE_Testing@CNM.EDU or call (505) 224-4000 ext. 53060
