Creating effective web content will help visitors find and understand information on your website.

Following these guidelines will improve the quality of your content and increase your visibility in search results:

Check Accuracy

You are responsible for the accuracy of the content you add to cnm.edu.

  • Be sure the information on a web page is accurate before posting it to cnm.edu.
  • Proofread your work several times, then have somebody else proofread it.

If people encounter inaccurate or out-of-date information, they’ll learn to distrust information on the CNM website. Pages will be reviewed by the Web Team prior to publishing, but it’s important to remember that you are the expert in terms of content accuracy.

Prioritize Information

Most visitors to cnm.edu spend less than 30 seconds on each page. In that time, they’re skimming the content looking for information relevant to their needs.

With that in mind, make sure to put the most important information at the top of your text and then provide more information (if necessary) so the reader does not have to waste time if the page doesn’t contain the information they are looking for.

Publishing content from other websites or published materials on CNM.edu is strictly prohibited.

Plagiarized content will be removed from the website and may result in the loss of your contributor access.

Skip Introductory Paragraphs

If a headline and subsequent links or bullets of information are sufficient to explain what kind of content is on a page, avoid using introductory paragraphs. Remember, website visitors are here to find specific information in the least amount of time possible. Let's save them some time.

Present Information in Small Chunks

Website visitors typically scan for information rather than reading continuous paragraphs of text. Make things easy on them by providing information in small chunks and using bullets, headers, and paragraphs to create some visual whitespace.
