CNM to Celebrate National Apprenticeship Week April 26–May 2

CNM sponsors two Registered Apprenticeship programs and supports dozens more, connecting students with real employers and real careers across New Mexico.
April 23, 2026

National Apprenticeship Week (NAW) runs April 26-May 2 and CNM is proud to support and participate in this important event. Run by ApprenticeshipUSA in partnership with the U.S. Department of Labor, NAW supports employers, industry associations, labor organizations, community-based organizations, workforce partners, educational institutions, federal, state and local government agencies, and more to demonstrate the value of Registered Apprenticeship in meeting critical industry workforce needs.

CNM continues to advocate for Registered Apprenticeship in our community as a proven workforce strategy that drives economic growth across all industries. The theme for NAW 2026 is "America at Work: Making America Skilled Again Through Registered Apprenticeship."

Two Registered Apprenticeship Programs are sponsored and managed by CNM. They include the New Mexico Information Technology Apprenticeship Program (NMITAP) and the newly registered Medical Assistant Apprenticeship Program (MAAP) launching this Fall Term. As a program sponsor, CNM provides course registration and oversees on-the-job learning with local employers.

Other ways CNM supports Registered Apprenticeship include:

    • Engaging regularly with outside apprenticeship programs to provide classes that can be used for Related Instruction on both the CNM and CNMI sides. Program sponsors include Sandia National Labs and the Western States Carpentry Training Fund (United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America).
    • Providing wage subsidy reimbursement to apprenticeship sponsors that use CNM for their classes, including Katharsis Media, as well as employers that participate as host sites for CNM sponsored programs including local employer Computer Corner.

    • Supporting apprenticeship-related career fairs and learning events (GearUP and APS) to provide students with information about apprenticeship and our programs.
    • Providing pre-apprenticeships with CNM Ingenuity’s Electric Lineworker Program at the Rio Rancho Campus.
    • Supporting the growth of women in trades, through hosting the annual NM Women in Trades Summit for the public.
    • Attending Apprenticeship Day at the New Mexico Roundhouse during the annual Legislative Session.

CNM is always looking for local employers to hire apprentices in our programs, which include both NMITAP and our new Medical Assistant Apprenticeship Program. Please contact Jessica Nojek if you're interested in participating.
