University Requirements for Transfer
The following course clusters outline the unique requirements for each transfer major. All of the listed courses can be completed as part of your associate degree. By completing your associate degree, you will also fulfill the New Mexico General Education requirements.
Communication

- COMM 1140 - Introduction to Media Writing
- COMM 1150 - Introduction to Mass Communication
Students pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree must also complete the language courses listed below:
- SPAN 2110 - Spanish III*
- SPAN 2120 - Spanish IV*
Communication Studies and Communication Studies (Online) Catalog 2025–2026
- COMM 1115 – Introduction to Communication
- One Modern Language Elective*
To maximize transfer credits, we recommend selecting the following courses to fulfill the modern language requirement as part of your Arts and Sciences requirement:
- FREN 1120 – French II
or - SPAN 1120 – Spanish II
or - PORT 1120 – Beginning Portuguese II
or - SIGN 1120 – American Sign Language II
*Based on your selected Modern Language course, please complete the corresponding sequence listed under the Arts and Sciences suggestions to ensure alignment with transfer requirements.
