New Classification

New Classification occurs when a new position is created that does not exist in the Master Salary Schedule.

  • A new classification positions into salary range/pay grades by evaluating factors such as job requirements, qualifications, reporting structure, fiscal responsibility, and comparison with market data.

Reclassification

Reclassification is a change in the grade of an existing or previously classified position. When there has been substantive, measurable change in job content and degree of responsibility, or a restructuring of roles within a department, positions should be reviewed to ensure they reflect the appropriate grade.

  • Reclassification season is from July 1st to September 30th.

Repurpose

Repurpose occurs when a vacant position is changed to another position that exists on the Master Salary Schedule.

Market Analysis

Market analysis is used to determine where a given position falls within the Master Salary Schedule. Performing a compensation analysis ensures CNM pay decisions are in line with external factors, such as current market trends, as well as internal needs, such as your company's goals.

Reorganization

Reorganization is the act of improving an organization by changing the current structure.

Steps in managing a reorganization:

  1. define the problem;
  2. determine whether existing jobs and structures are meeting department goals;
  3. consider what factors contribute to effectiveness of jobs and structure;
  4. identify a new model that will support your goals and submit it to your vice president; and
  5. meet with Human Resources/Budget to go over the process and timeline, once the model is approved by the Vice President and President.
