New Student Orientation

Welcome to CNM! We're glad to have you. On your path to becoming a CNM Suncat, you must complete a New Student Orientation.

Dual Credit Students

Dual Credit students are high school students taking college courses at CNM. Dual Credit students are required to complete this online orientation module.

Dual Credit Online Orientation

Beginning Freshman

All first-time, full-time beginning freshman are required to complete an in-person orientation session. Transfer, returning and visitor students are encouraged to attend an in-person orientation.

Due to COVID-19 precautions, several upcoming in-person orientations have been canceled. Sessions after April 5, 2020 as of today, are still available to sign up for. If you sign up for an in-person orientation, please check your CNM email account for updates!

Benefits of New Student Orientation

Studies show that students who attend an in-person New Student Orientation session before starting their first semester of college have a higher success rate and help you understand what to expect as a new student.

We'll show you how to check your student account registration holds and how to verify your address, phone number, program of study and residency status. We'll also show you how to make an appointment with an academic coach and register for classes. We’ll wrap up the session with a campus tour so you can see where to access the numerous student resources on campus.

Once you’ve completed your in-person orientation, your orientation hold will be released from your student account, and you will be able to register for classes.

SOAR Sessions

Student orientation, advisement, and registration (SOAR) sessions are designed to give you one-on-one support. In these sessions, you will meet with an academic coach, select classes, and register for classes during orientation. Any new student is welcome to register for a SOAR session.

Students who attend a SOAR session MUST have completed the following items:

  • Submitted ACT/SAT scores or have completed the Accuplacer 7 days prior to their SOAR session.
  • Have turned in your official high school transcripts to the CNM Records Office.
  • Have turned in your official college transcripts if you attended any college courses outside of CNM.
  • Have logged into your myCNM account and have your CNM ID number, username, and password readily available.
  • Resolved additional registration holds on your student account.
