Program Information

The Exercise Science and Wellness program of study is designed for you if you are seeking high-quality instruction as a personal trainer and/or plan to transfer to a four-year institution to pursue a baccalaureate degree in Physical Education, Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology, and Health & Wellness. 


The Fitness certificate is a demanding two-consecutive term program starting in the fall term with most students graduating after the following spring term. You will be prepared to successfully sit for exams to earn a nationally-recognized certification as a personal fitness trainer and/or group exercise instructor. After certification, you are ready for gainful employment as a personal fitness trainer or group exercise instructor in the Health and Wellness and Fitness industries.


The Yoga certificate provides an opportunity for students to study anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, and group exercise leadership skills. Special emphasis is placed on learning Yoga philosophy, lifestyle, and ethics for Yoga teachers. Upon completion of this certificate program, you will be nationally recognized by Yoga Alliance as a 200-hour Hatha Level I Yoga instructor. 

Health Status Requirements

To enroll in any physical activity course you are required to fully and accurately fill out the PAR-Q and Pre-participation Screening Questionnaire. If you who fail to do so you will not be able to participate in the course until that time all paperwork has been filled out completely and to the instructor’s satisfaction.

You are are required to have a signed medical release in order to participate in these classes if you are:

  1. A female over 55 years of age,
  2. A male over 45 years of age,
  3. Other individuals as required by the instructor.
