Program Information
The CNM Law Enforcement Academy (CNMLEA) is accredited by the New Mexico Law Enforcement Academy as a regional/satellite academy.
The CNMLEA utilizes experienced instructors who are certified in their respective subject areas. Instructors have diverse backgrounds and include active and retired law enforcement officers, attorneys, criminal justice practitioners, and other state certified professional trainers.
The CNMLEA utilizes the New Mexico Law Enforcement Academy Basic Police Officer Training (BPOT) curriculum that consists of 700+ hours of classroom and practical training in a wide variety of areas. The course of instruction prepares the cadet for the Law Enforcement Officer Certification Exam administered by the New Mexico Law Enforcement Academy.
Expectations and standards for cadets are high and they are held to a high standard of conduct, academic achievement and performance.
Academic instruction at the CNMLEA is rigorous and utilizes the CNM distance-learning platform, Brightspace, to supplement the classroom instruction. Writing assignments, quizzes and tests may be assigned and completed utilizing Brightspace. Students are subject to frequent testing, both written and practical, and are required to maintain scores that meet or exceed the standards set by the New Mexico Law Enforcement Academy.
Cadets who successfully complete the CNMLEA will earn 32 academic credit hours and a certificate of completion from CNM as well as certification as a law enforcement officer from the New Mexico law Enforcement Academy.
CNMLEA abides by all laws as established by the New Mexico Law Enforcement Act, Chapter 29, Article 7 NMSA 1978, and will follow all Rules and Regulations as set by the New Mexico Law Enforcement Academy Board.
CNMLEA conducts two 18-week training academies per year, and emphasizes high academic and stringent conduct standards. All classes are scheduled to meet 40 hours per week, Monday through Thursday, between 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Some evening and Friday classes will be required.
