EMS 1053, EMS 1093, and EMS 1190

This pairing of courses is required for gaining EMT-Basic licensure in the State of New Mexico. Students must also take HLTH 1001 as a pre- or co-requisite. If taking HLTH 1001 as a co-requisite, please do so IN THE FIRST TWO WEEKS OF THE TERM. These linked courses create a community of students gaining the knowledge, skills, and behaviors required to provide entry-level emergency care in the pre-hospital environment. The clinical Course EMS 1190 has a 5-week classroom component along with a clinical experience in the hospital, which is scheduled OUTSIDE OF REGULAR CLASS HOURS VIRTUALLY. This pairing of courses is required for gaining EMT-Intermediate licensure in the State of New Mexico. It is preferred that students be licensed EMT-Basics with pre-hospital experience to take this course. Students who have recently completed their EMT-Basic courses and are in the process of taking their licensure exam may also attend. These linked courses create a community of students gaining the knowledge, skills, and behaviors required to provide intermediate-level emergency care in the pre-hospital environment.

This pairing of courses includes basic concepts in venipuncture and skin puncture procedures along with an overview of anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, quality assurance, and medico-legal issues. These linked courses create a community of students gaining the knowledge, skills, and behaviors required for the practice of phlebotomy procedures using artificial arms and human subjects. Students will have an opportunity to practice phlebotomy procedures on actual patients in area hospitals and clinics.

Students should be aware that MLT 1001 is a pre- or co-requisite to PHLB 1010. Registration errors will occur if the MLT 1001 is overlooked.

This pairing of courses includes basic concepts in venipuncture and skin puncture procedures along with an overview of anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, quality assurance, and medico-legal issues. These linked courses create a community of students gaining the knowledge, skills, and behaviors required for the practice phlebotomy procedures using artificial arms and human subjects. Students will have an opportunity to practice phlebotomy procedures on actual patients in area hospitals and clinics in the following term.

Students should be aware that MLT 1001 is a pre- or co-requisite to PHLB 1010. Registration errors will occur if the MLT 1001 is overlooked.
