Editing Basics
Content Types
You can create certain content types by selecting "Add new..." from the gray side menu.
- Page: Pages are where you will be adding and editing the majority of the content on your site. Pages can contain text, pictures, and links.
- Folder: Folders can contain pages and other content types that you want grouped together (this is handy to keep the navigation list organized).
- File: You can upload Word documents, PDFs, and other files and link to them from content on your pages. Make sure that your department's folder has a "documents" folder for all your files.
- Image: You can upload images from your computer to insert into pages. Make sure that your department's folder has a "images" folder for all your images.
- Link: Links are used to display items in the left-hand navigation, directing visitors to pages in other areas of the website.
- Form Folder: Create online forms and add form fields to gather information from your users. Form submissions can be emailed to you, saved to a CSV file, or both.
Text Editor (WYSIWYG)
When you edit a page, you will use the rich text editor to add and style your content. The text editor has similar formatting features found in Microsoft Word and other text editing programs. What you see is what you get (WYSIWYG) when using this text editor.
Once you've saved your page, the text is displayed in the main content area.
Toolbar Dropdowns and Buttons
The Text Editor's toolbar contains dropdown menus and action buttons. Some buttons can be activated via keyboard shortcuts similar to those found in Microsoft Word.
Insert templates (highlight boxes, accordions, grids) and horizontal lines.
Format text as bold, italic, various formats, and clear formatting on text.
*Clear formatting only works with bold, italic and fonts. Clear formatting doesn't work with headers and tables.
Undo, redo, cut, copy, paste, paste as text, find and replace, select all.
Insert tables, view table properties, delete tables, and edit cell, row, and column properties.
Edit and view source code.
*Though you can view the source code, we strongly recommend not working with or changing anything in the source code.
View visual aids, invisible characters, preview, and full screen.
Format text in various styles and designs. This dropdown menu is also included within the Format dropdown menu.
