CNM student Rebekah Lantz understands what it’s like to wrestle with metal health. That’s why she recently wrote and published “New Hope,” the first in a series of books she plans to publish that share her story and resources for others.

“I wrote this book because I want other people to know they aren’t alone, and there are people out there who want to support them,” she says.

In “New Hope,” Rebekah covers several topics including mental health terminology, psychological and emotional factors to recovery, and specific tools and practices for building resilience.

For Rebekah, the most important piece of her book is about finding and building community.

“The thing I hope people take away from my book is that you can create community and even a family with the people around you,” she says.

Since publishing her book in April, Rebekah has sold over 100 copies and has hosted several book signings. “New Hope” is also now available through Barnes and Nobel and all other online bookstores.

Along with her writing, Rebekah is a student in CNM’s Integrated Studies program, participates in the Special Olympics, and works full time for Arc Thrift Stores.

She’s set to graduate from CNM in 2027 and plans to attend Albright College in Pennsylvania to study religion. Her ultimate goal is to run her own church for folks with special needs.

For now, Rebekah is focused on finishing her studies and sharing her book with others. More than anything, she wants people to know that there are always ways to find support.

“There are so many services at CNM, like Disability Services or Wellness CNM, as well as services out in the community that are ready and willing to help you succeed,” she says.
