Three CNM Electric Vehicle Graduates Land In-Demand Technician Roles with Toyota

In May 2025, Alexis Amancio, Adam Hewitt, and Gael Juarez had just completed CNM’s Electric Vehicle certification program. Today, all three are service technicians at the Larry H. Miller Toyota dealership, working on hybrid and electric vehicles. 

“I’m thrilled to have these students on board, first as interns and now as full-fledged technicians,” says Luis Alvarez, service director for Larry H. Miller. “They have stamina, discipline, and the understanding that learning never stops in this industry.” 

In the Electric Vehicle Technology program, Alexis, Adam, and Gael learned how to perform fundamental maintenance on electric and hybrid vehicles. After earning their certificates, they each enrolled in the Transportation Technology associate program.   

This spring, their class toured the Toyota dealership and learned about career opportunities, including internships. Shortly after, Alexis, Adam, and Gael began internships at the service center. 

“We were each paired with a technician and learned how they work and what it takes to get the job done,” Alexis says. “Everyone was also so willing to help each other, which is what was appealing to me about Toyota from the beginning.” 

“I loved doing my internship. I learned about things I’d never done before, like recalls, and gained so much from my technician and the whole team,” says Adam.  

Four months later, on the last day of their internships, all three were offered full-time service technician jobs. 

In their roles, they perform basic maintenance on a wide variety of hybrid and electric vehicles. 

“The electric vehicle program put all of us ahead professionally because we are some of the few technicians with those certifications,” Gael explains. “I recently diagnosed a battery issue on an electric car and fixed it on my own because of my EV certifications.” 

Looking ahead, Alexis, Adam, and Gael are all on track to earn their associate degrees from CNM. They will also continue earning certifications through Toyota and the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) to help them move up the career ladder.  

Luis is excited to keep working with CNM and hopes to hire more interns in the future. For Curtis Garand, electric vehicle instructor and Program Director of Transportation Technology, seeing students move from the classroom to internships and then full-time employment is an important full-circle moment.   

“This really is a testament to Toyota’s commitment to education at the local and national level,” he says. “From using Toyota technician learning modules in the classroom to hiring our graduates, we’re working together to set students up for success.”
