Credit for Standardized Exams

Earn college credit toward your degree or certificate for earning passing scores on a standardized exam

CNM awards transfer credit for the listed passing scores on the following standardized exams. As with any transfer credit, other institutions reserve the right to refuse to apply transfer credit toward graduation/program requirements. Students intending to transfer to another Higher Education institution are strongly encouraged to contact that institution to determine what transfer credit, standardized exams, and exam scores are accepted and will apply to that institution’s graduation/program requirements.

Advanced Placement (AP)

Students may earn credit from passing Advanced Placement (AP) exams. Earned AP credit will be treated as transfer credit and show up as a grade of "TR" on the student's transcript. Avant Language Exams

Earn credit for language courses by taking and passing Avant Language Exams. CNM offers credit for several language exams offered through Avant. Please see the Avant Language Exams Policy below for more information on the exams offered and the number of credits you can earn for a specific exam. Currently, the Avant Language Exams are only offered at the Main Campus. If you don’t see the language you are interested in, contact the Assessment Center; they may be able to get it for you.

Take a Avant STAMP 4S Sample Test Before Taking the Exam

Students may visit the Avant STAMP 4S Sample Tests website to test their language skills by taking a free sample test before paying and registering for the actual exam. Register to take an Avant Language Exam

Students that would like to take an Avant Language Exam will need to pay the exam fee at the Cashier's Office or visit the CNM CPL Store. All Avant STAMP 4S Exams are $50.00. CNM also offers the Avant WorldSpeak exam for Vietnamese, which is $75.00.

Please schedule your exam through the Assessment Center in advance by calling (505) 224-3243. You will need to bring a copy of your receipt and a government issued I.D. with you to the Assessment Center on the day of the exam.

Certiport Internet and Computing Core Certification (IC3) Exam - for BCIS 1110 (previously IT 1010)

Students may earn credit for BCIS 1110 - Fundamentals of Information Literacy and Systems and a Certiport Internet and Computing Core (IC3) industry certification for passing this 3-part exam. There is a $40.00 fee for taking the IC3 which is payable at the CNM Cashier's Office or online at the CNM CPL Store. Please make sure to bring a copy of the receipt and a government issued I.D. when you come in to test. After your exam, the test scores will be sent directly to the Records Office. Students who earn passing scores will be granted credit for IT 1010.

CNM highly recommends you take and pass the free practice exam before paying the $40 fee for taking the actual exam.

Already IC3 certified?

Print the IT/CIS Credit for Certifications Form and follow the directions. To earn credit, you must have been certified within 3 years.

College Level Examination Program (CLEP)

Earn college credit for passing a College Level Examination Program (CLEP) test. Earned CLEP credit will be treated as transfer credit and show up as a grade of "TR" on the student's transcript.

CLEP exams offer students the opportunity to receive college credit for what they may already know. CLEP offers credit for a variety of Math, Science & Engineering, Foreign Languages, Communication, Business, Humanities & Social Sciences courses to enrolled students. CLEP scores are good for 20 years.

Register to take a CLEP exam

Students who would like more information or wish to take a CLEP exam should visit the CNM Assessment Center to fill out a registration form. There is a non-refundable CNM administration fee of $25.00 payable at the cashiers' office or at the online CNM CPL Store. Students will also need to pay the CLEP exam fee prior to taking the exam. To verify the current CLEP exam fee, visit the CNM Assessment Center website. Checks or money orders made payable to CLEP are also accepted for the exam fee. You must have proof of payment for both fees and a government issued photo I.D. in order to take the exam.

If you are repeating an exam you must wait six months. CLEP exams that are repeated within 6 months of the test date will have the scores cancelled and test fees forfeited.

DSST (DANTES Subject Standardized Tests)

Students may earn credit for successfully passing DSST Exams. Students that meet CNM CPL requirements and provide proof of a passing score will be granted course credit for those courses. A minimum score of 400 is required to receive credit. Credit will only be awarded for DSST exams taken since 2008. Passing DSST scores are accepted for up to 10 years. DSST exams taken prior to 2008 will not be accepted.

To receive credit for a DSST exam that you have already taken, please visit the DSST website and select the appropriate transcript request form. Have your transcript sent directly to the CNM Records Office by including the CNM DSST school code 9734 in your request.

Register to take a DSST exam

CNM Ingenuity, Inc. Workforce Training Center is an approved DSST Test Center. Please contact the WTC Testing Center at (505)224-5204 or email them at to schedule your exam. DSST exams are $85.00 per exam. In addition, there is a $25.00 administrative fee. These fees are payable on the day of the exam. Current CNM students should request that their scores be sent to the CNM Records Office on the day of the exam.

DANTES-funded military service members may be eligible to receive reimbursement of all DSST exam fees, for their first attempt. For more information on funding eligibility, service members can visit the CNM Veterans Resource Center's Licensing and Certification Tests website, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, or speak with a Veterans Program Specialist in the CNM Financial Aid Office

All test takers are eligible to retest after a 30 day wait period. 

International Baccalaureate

CNM grants students credit for successful completion of many International Baccalaureate Program exams.

If you are getting ready to complete your IB Program, you can request that your transcripts be sent directly to CNM from the IB Program Coordinator of the school where you are taking it. If you already completed the exam, please order your transcripts from the IB Program and have them sent directly to the CNM Grad & Eval Office, at 525 Buena Vista Dr. SE, Albuquerque, NM 87106.
