Paramedic Approval Information
Process
- Complete Department Approval Request Form (see below). This form will require an upload of New Mexico State EMS licensure and student ID number.
- The program will communicate through your CNM e-mail regarding your approval status within three working-business
- Once approved, you will be able to register for EMS Paramedic courses.
Requirements
- EMT-B or AEMT New Mexico state license
- Current CNM student
- ENGL 1110
- Program-approved laboratory science
If you are registered in required courses at CNM you will be considered "in progress." These courses must be on your CNM record with a final grade by the end of the current term to be eligible to start the program. Courses also must be "in progress" at CNM. Classes must be completed with a grade of "C" or better. If you do not complete these courses successfully you may lose your seat in the program.

Paramedic Program Information

Traditional Paramedic Program
The Traditional Paramedic program is for Spring entry only and is a 4-term program. Theory courses are face-to-face and online. Labs, Clinical, and Field courses are in person. The traditional program begins in January.
Paramedic Hybrid Program
The Paramedic Hybrid program is for Fall entry only and is a 4-term program. Most theory courses are online. Labs, Clinical, and Field courses are in person. Labs are based on work schedules. The hybrid program begins in August.

Credit for Prior Learning
If you have successfully completed your EMT-Basic or EMT-Intermediate License at another institution, please submit a Credit for Prior Learning - EMS form to the CNM Records office prior to submitting your Paramedic Approval Request Form. Credit for Prior Learning forms can take up to 4 weeks for processing.
Licensing and Experience
You must have a current, New Mexico EMT-B or EMT-I license. You will need to provide your license number on the Paramedic Approval Request form. You can be "in progress" in obtaining your license but you must receive your EMT-Basic NM state license by the first day of the term.
If you have any pending disciplinary actions on your Basic and/or Intermediate license you will not be able to enroll in the program.
If you have successfully completed your EMT-B or EMT-I coursework at another institution (with a C or better), please submit a transcript to the CNM Records Office prior to submitting your Paramedic Approval Request Form. Please note it can take some time for transfer credits to appear on your CNM transcript.
Priority Registration
If you have relevant work experience you can submit a Document of Experience Form to receive a priority registration date. A supervisor/organization official must sign and submit the form by the screening form deadline. Supervisor/organization officials will be contacted to verify the submitted Documentation of Experience forms.
Only ten seats will be open for priority registration. All students who are approved for a priority registration date will receive the same opportunity to register. Seating is limited, registration is not guaranteed. Students who are unable to register during the priority registration timeframe will be able to attempt to register during the general paramedic registration period.
Complete the Following Prior to Screening
- Enroll as a CNM student (if you are not already a CNM student). Visit the Registration & Application page.
- Receive CNM ID number and CNM email address. Check your email address to make sure it is functioning properly and contact Information Technology Services if you have questions.
- If you have attended other colleges/universities, have all transcripts sent to the CNM Records Office and allow up to four weeks for processing. When an evaluation is complete, you will receive an email showing how credits were evaluated.
- Check your record in myCNM to make sure the courses (the minimum required courses) are shown with the EXACT course numbers. If you took a similar course that did not transfer in exactly as the CNM required course, complete an Appeal for Re-Evaluation of Arts and Science Credits Form and submit the form to the CNM Records Office. Course documentation must accompany this form as stated. If the request is approved the transfer coursework will appear on your CNM transcript, which can be viewed through myCNM.
- If you have relevant work experience submit a Documentation of Experience form to receive a priority registration date. A supervisor or organization official must sign and submit the Documentation of Experience Form. The form needs to be emailed to the Program Director at CNMEMSProgram@cnm.edu.
Once you complete the form, you will be notified of your form status by CNM email and it is your responsibility to check your CNM account regularly. You will be notified of the date, time, and courses to register for in the program. If you successfully register for the program, classes will begin in the upcoming term.
Pre-Clinical Requirements
If you are successfully registered for the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) - Paramedic Program, you will be required to complete pre-clinical requirements. Students will receive a classroom visit once the term has started regarding these pre-clinical requirements. More information is available through the Office of Verification and Compliance.
