Degree and Certificate Information

Surgical Technology is an AAS degree that presents the knowledge and skills necessary to work in a surgical environment and function as a vital member of the operating room team. You will typically begin the program each May and August. The learning environment consists of the campus classroom and laboratory along with local hospitals, day surgery centers, and physicians' offices. Accreditation is from the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).

As a graduate, you are eligible to take the National Certifying Examination for Surgical Technologists. If you pass this examination, you will be certified and authorized to use the initials CST to designate your status as Certified Surgical Technologist.

Sterile Processing Technician, Certificate of Achievement

Sterile Processing Technician certificate provides you with the knowledge and skills necessary to work in a hospital's Central Supply or Sterile Processing Department. You will develop the skills necessary to properly disinfect, prepare, process, store, and issue both sterile and non-sterile supplies and equipment for patient care. Also, you will learn to operate sterilizing units and monitor the effectiveness of the sterilization process. The learning environment consists of the campus classroom and laboratory.

As a graduate, you will receive a certificate and may be eligible to apply to take the National Institute for Certification of Healthcare Sterile Processing and Distribution Personnel Examination (CBSPD). Employment opportunities include surgery centers, dialysis facilities, and central processing units in hospitals.

Credit for Prior Learning (CPL)

If you have a valid NBSTSA CST certificate or employer verification, you can receive credit for courses in the Surgical Technologist program by filling out the Credit for Prior Learning (Surgical Technologist) form.

Surgical Technology Information Session on November 28

The Surgical Technology Information Session will be an in-person only event. Attendees will learn about the profession, pre-requisite requirements, and registration requirements. Attendees will also get a tour of our Surgical Technology Lab and overview of the Surgical Technology Program.
