Find out how to apply for direct loans and access your student loan information.

Eligibility for Student Loans

Students requesting student employment or a loan must be enrolled in a minimum of six financial aid eligible credit hours. You must have a complete financial aid file before you can accept your award. Eligibility is determined by Financial Aid and Scholarship Services upon completion of the process below. Loan applications will be processed in 7 ‐ 10 business days.

Step 1

Go to the Federal Student Aid website to complete your Loan Entrance Counseling and Master Promissory Note.

Step 2

  • Log-in to myCNM
  • Click the "Financial Aid" tab
  • In the “My Financial Aid” box, select the “Click here” link
  • Click on “Award” under My Financial Aid
  • Click on “Award for Aid Year”
  • Under “Select Aid Year”, use the drop-menu to select the appropriate aid year
  • Click "submit" 

If there are no loans on your account, you may request a loan on the CNM site.

National Student Loan Data System

The National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS) is the U.S. Department of Education’s central database for student aid. It provides an overview of your federal student loans, loan amounts, enrollment status, outstanding balances and disbursements.

Authorized users such as financial aid staff, guaranty agencies, lenders and schools can access NSLDS to assist with managing and verifying your aid. All federal loan and grant information will be submitted to NSLDS.

You can access your federal student loan information, including your loan and grant amounts, outstanding balances, loan status, disbursements, and servicer information by logging into your account at StudentAid.gov.
