The first place award went to Andrew Fearnside Art and Design, a maker of fine design home accessories. He wins a free seat in the first cohort of the Ignite Community Accelerator, an intensive 12-week training program that includes an array of valuable business services, such as mentoring from local entrepreneurs, personal business coaching and access to other resources designed to help move a business forward faster.

The Ignite Community Accelerator operates at the CNM STEMulus Center in Downtown Albuquerque.

Second place for the Power Up Your Idea Competition went to Gary Xie of ClipCam, a developer of functional technology accessories. He wins an iPad and three months of free co-working space at the STEMulus Center.

Third place went to Aaron Cowan of HeartProTech, a designer of custom 3D printed jewelry for healthcare patients. He wins a $50 voucher for 3D printing services at the STEMulus Center and free financial coaching from CNM Connect.

“The types of business ideas entered in the competition ranged from home health care to consumer products,” said Tom Darling, director of STEMulus Initiatives.  “There were 10 entries that made for very stiff competition. Each had impressive and well thought out ideas.”

He noted that the purpose of the competition was to help entrants think through their business plans very comprehensively. The competition also served as an opportunity for entrepreneurs to refine their business ideas before applying for the IGNITE Community Accelerator that begins in January.

“We would like to congratulate all of the winners in our competition and thank all those who submitted their business ideas,” Darling said. “We encourage all participants to apply for the Ignite Community Accelerator in order to move their business ideas forward and at a faster pace.”

Any aspiring entrepreneur with a business idea can apply for the 12-week Ignite Community Accelerator that begins in January. For more info, visit www.stemuluscenter.org.
