Registration Difficulties and Overrides
"Open enrollment" paramedic courses (2100 - 2200 EMS courses): due to the high demand for arts & science courses at CNM, some students may experience difficulties finding open sections of the required arts & science pre- or co-requisites needed to register for the "open enrollment" courses for the paramedic program. If this is the case, please contact the HWPS School Advisor, Ruth Sandoval-Adams (rsandovaladams@cnm.edu or 224-4111), so that she may work more closely with you to find an open seat or discuss other options.
EMT-Intermediate: as you may know, EMT-Intermediate tends to fill quickly each semester at CNM. In the interest of promoting successful course completion and advancing the job skills of licensed EMT-Basics, department approval was placed on EMT-Intermediate theory and lab. This registration barrier will remain in effect until the open registration date of 04/23/2012.
EARLY department approval and registration will be granted to currently licensed New Mexico EMT-Basics. Current licensure status will be verified using the NM EMS License Verification Report. On 04/23/2012, we will remove the department approval barrier, thus opening registration access to all qualified students on a first-come, first serve basis. This will make EMT-Intermediate accessible to continuing EMT-Basic students who are waiting to take their state licensure exam. Please know that obtaining early department approval in no way saves you a seat in the course. It is up to you to register and pay for your courses (within 24 hrs. of registration). If you are dropped for non-payment or other issues, you may lose your seat to other students who are registering and making payment.
Please keep in mind that there are only a limited number of available seats…once these seats are filled we will have reached our capacity. If a seat becomes available, students should be able to register. We do not currently run a waitlist on linked theory and lab courses. Two sections is the absolute maximum that the CNM EMS Program will currently support due to factors such as clinical availability and job placement. Check back often because students frequently drop for various reasons, opening up a seat. Please contact Rebekah Moskowitz, EMT-Intermediate (ILS) Coordinator at rgrady2@cnm.edu for department override requests. She will need your NM EMT Basic License number, expiration date and your CNM Student ID number. After approval, she will contact you to inform you that your request has been processed. After you have been notified that your request has been approved, you should be able to register for any open seats.
You may also want to consider pursuing paramedic-level courses without taking EMT-Intermediate. The open enrollment, paramedic-level courses you could take are EMS 2103, 2203, 2207, 2213, 2217, 2223, and 2293.
This information has been shared with Academic Advisement and the HWPS administrative staff.
