The students were honored by the New Mexico House of Representatives Education Committee and the New Mexico Senate Education Committee, and they were honored on the floors of the House and Senate. After being honored at the Legislature in Santa Fe, they had lunch with CNM President Kathie Winograd.
The six students – Melanie Mullens, Steven Fye, Crystal Perea, Natasha Spencer, Adrienna Sanchez and Stephen Martos – will receive scholarships to pursue bachelor’s degrees at the New Mexico public university of their choice, which include the University of New Mexico, New Mexico State University, New Mexico Tech and others. The scholarships are valued at $15,000 and cover tuition for four semesters.
To be eligible for the All-New Mexico Academic Team, the students had to have a minimum 3.5 grade point average with at least 45 credit hours on their transcripts. They were also judged on criteria such as participation in student organizations, community service, awards and special recognitions, and an essay.
