STEP 3: Set Up Your myCNM Student Account
You will use your myCNM student account to register for courses, view your grades, and communicate with your instructors.
How to Log In
Use your CNM email address (the username you received after applying — e.g., [email protected]) to log in.
Logging in for the First Time
If this is your first time logging in, your temporary password will be the last four digits of your CNM ID followed by GoSuncats!
Example: 1234GoSuncats!
Reset Your CNM Password (Recommended)
It is highly recommended that you reset your password after logging in for the first time. To reset your password, visit Microsoft’s self-service password reset portal.
Your new password should:
- Be at least 8 characters long
- Include at least one uppercase letter, one lowercase letter, and one number
- Not include your name or CNM username
Important Reminder
Check your myCNM email daily to avoid missing important messages from CNM, including registration updates, instructor communication, and deadlines.
STEP 4: Complete New Student Orientation
All dual credit students are required to complete the online New Student Orientation before registering for courses.
How to Complete Orientation
Access the online orientation and enter the following information to begin:
- First name
- Last name
- CNM student ID number
- Date of birth
- Complete all sections of the orientation.
Important Reminder
You must complete the Dual Credit Online Orientation before you are eligible to register for classes.
STEP 5: Assessment/Placement
Submit your official ACT or SAT scores. If you don't have these, please review your options below. Both options are free!
Math Placement: The ALEKS PPL Math Placement Tool is currently being offered remotely or at CNM's Main, Montoya, Westside, Rio Rancho, and South Valley campuses. Exams must be scheduled in advance, and you must have your CNM student ID number and a picture ID to take the exam.
Reading/Writing Placement: The Directed Self-Placement (DSP) tool does not require an appointment. You can take the DSP any time from a cell phone or other online device. Students needing a math placement score will still need to take the math portion of the ALEKS PPL.
STEP 6: Meet With an Advisor
It is recommended that you meet with a Dual Credit Advisor to discuss your course placement options. Be sure to bring your ACT or SAT scores, or complete the Accuplacer Placement Exam before your appointment.
STEP 7: Register for Classes
You will register for classes online through your myCNM student account.
How to Register
- Log in to your myCNM account to access the registration system.
- Use CNM's Course Catalog to search for available classes. This is a helpful resource when selecting your courses.
- Dual Credit students can register for classes at the 1000 level and higher, except for fitness classes. You must meet any required prerequisites for the course.
After Registering
- Print or download your class schedule from myCNM.
- Ensure you have a zero payment balance on your account (Dual Credit classes should not have tuition charges, but it’s important to verify).
- Note: Your high school will receive a weekly report of your registration activity. Schools have the authority to request the removal of any course(s) that are not approved. If this occurs, the course(s) will be dropped from your schedule.
- Under the Dual Credit Program, tuition and registration fees are waived.
*Disclaimer: Students are responsible for course fees and uniforms if required.

STEP 8: Get a CNM Student ID Card
Bring a copy of your schedule and a State ID card or Driver's License to the CNM ID Office to get your CNM student ID card. If you don't have one of the above, bring a copy of your schedule and a high school ID. Students without a State ID or Driver's License may need to have their enrollment confirmed. ID cards must be with you when you're on campus.
STEP 9: Get Your Textbooks
View the How to Access your Dual Credit textbook guide.
Students who attend a regular APS high school or school of choice should fill out the online form, Where is my textbook? and Library Services will reply back with the status of their textbooks. Read the APS website for more information.
Charter school and all other school district students must print a copy of your schedule from your myCNM account. Bring your printed schedule and textbook charge form (pick up the charge form from your high school counselor) to a CNM Bookstore to pick up required textbooks.
Private school students check with your counselor as your school may pay for your textbooks.
Home-schooled students are responsible for the cost of textbooks.
includED Digital Textbooks - Students should check their class schedule in their myCNM student account for includED bookstore charges. If you have these charges on your account, you do not need to pay them if your high school is covering the cost of textbooks (applies to public and charter high school students). includED is a program that electronically delivers the required book automatically to the student on the first day of class. Information should also be included on your course syllabus provided on the first day of class.
Note: Your high school must approve your registration. Your high school will receive information about the course(s) you've registered for. If your school doesn't approve the course(s), they will be dropped from your schedule.
STEP 10: Locate Your Classes
Go to the Visit CNM page to locate the campus and building where your class(es) will be held.
Central New Mexico Community College (CNM) does not discriminate based on sex and prohibits sex discrimination in any educational program or activity it operates, in compliance with Title IX.
