Why Write a Thank You Letter?

When you receive a CNM Foundation scholarship, it’s because generous donors believe in your potential and want to support your education.
Writing a thank you letter is your chance to:

  • Express gratitude to the donor(s).
  • Share how the scholarship is helping you reach your goals.
  • Show appreciation for their investment in students like you.

These letters don’t have to be long or complicated. A sincere, thoughtful note goes a long way. 

Award Offer and Acceptance

Students who have been offered a CNM Foundation scholarship will receive an email from Central New Mexico Community College Scholarships notifying them of their award.

To accept and complete the process:

  1. Click on the link in the award email to log in to the myScholarship acceptance page.

  2. Click “Accept” on the bottom right corner of the screen.
  3. Once accepted, your award is pending until you:
  • Write and upload your Thank You letter addressed to the donor.
  • Upload a photo of yourself.

What to Include in Your Thank You Letter

Your letter should:

  • Start with a greeting (ex: Dear Scholarship Donor,).
  • Express thanks for the scholarship.
  • Share a little about yourself (major, year in school, career goals).
  • Explain how the scholarship makes a difference for you (financial support, encouragement, opportunities).
  • Close with a warm thank you. 

Sample Thank You Letter

Dear [Scholarship Donor],

I am truly honored to be the recipient of the [Scholarship Name]. Thank you so much for your generosity and support.

I am currently a [your year, e.g., sophomore] majoring in [your major]. My goal is to [share career goal/aspiration]. This scholarship has helped me [mention how it has helped — reduced financial stress, allowed focus on classes, pursue an opportunity, etc.].

Your kindness inspires me to work hard and give back to others in the future. Thank you again for your support in helping me pursue my education.
